House Tully has held Riverrun for a thousand years as a vassal lord to different kings. House Tully rose to prominence during the Targaryen conquest. When Aegon the Conqueror attacked, Edmyn Tully was the first to rebel against King Harren the Black of the Isles and support the invading Targaryen army. Afterwards, Aegon made House Tully lords paramount of the Trident.
During the War of the Five Kings, House Tully was defeated and Lord Edmure Tully was captured during the Red Wedding. House Tully, for the part it played in supporting House Stark, was stripped of its lands, titles and incomes. The titles, lands and incomes were give to the newly established House Frey of Riverrun.
